Ashtanga Yoga

Our classes are fashioned after the Ashtanga Yoga of Pattabhi Jois of Mysore India.   The yoga we practice is an aerobic type of yoga aimed at the heating of the body to release physical, mental and emotional toxins.  Upon which rejuvenation and healing can take place.  You will gain strength, stamina, balance and flexibility in addition to reducing stress and tension.

The Primary, Secondary and the Third series of Ashtanga Yoga are offered.  Each class will work on one section of the series.  Depending on frequency of attendance, one can cycle through the entire series every couple of weeks.  In keeping with the yogic tradition the class begins with a chant/poem.  Then we perform the Sun Salutations to warm our bodies.  After which we proceed with one section of the series.  Lastly we finish class with relaxation and deep breathing.

Intro to Ashtanga Classes

The Intro classes begin by teaching the Sun salutations with emphasis on proper technique.  This is the warming up portion of your work out that is very important when you begin to learn Ashtanga yoga.  If you are completely new or wanting to ease your way back into yoga, the Intro class is a great place to begin.  The asanas (stretching positions/poses) taught will be shown slowly and explained to give the practitioner correct knowledge to gain the benefits in your yoga practice.  This leads to being able to practice by oneself, as well as partaking in the Level 1 and higher classes.

Level 1 and 2 Classes

The First series is taught in Level 1 & Level 2 classes.  The asanas (stretching positions/poses) taught will develop balance, strength and flexibility.   If you are athletic or wanting to get back in tip top shape, Level 1 is ideal for your training.  Ashtanga Yoga will fulfill whatever level of healing and strengthening your body and mind needs.  If you are needing to reduce stress, rehabilitate an injury, or to cross-train, then come and experience the wonderful benefits of yoga!  Level 2 will include more variations and strength transitions along with adjustments to further your yoga experience.  And remember, you can adjust your work out to fit your needs.

Level 3 and 4 Classes

The Second and Third Series are taught in Level 3 & Level 4 classes, respectively.   Included are standing poses, forward bending & twisting, and back bending poses.  Also leg behind the head, more strengthening and balancing poses with inverted postures are covered.  Level 3 & 4 are more in-depth and advance in practice for the ardent yoga practitioner.  Patience, persistence and perseverance are keys to expanding and changing our lives with yoga.
